Hey, Upper East Siders. I have some news for you: Dan and Nate were spotted together once again, reminiscing about their past lives as New York City elite.
No, but actually, Penn Badgley and Chase Crawford appeared on Variety’s Actors on Actors issue to talk about their lives and careers… and Gossip Girl, of course.
It’s been 8 years since the Gossip Girl finale, but Dan and Nate are back at it again to talk about the good ol’ days. Well, the goo ol’ days to us, at least. According to Chase, he’s not so eager to reminisce on his life as an Upper East Sider.
When talking about re-watching the show, Chase said “You have to strap me to a gurney and pop my eyes open like Clockwork Orange.” He joked. “But no, it would be interesting to see the first couple maybe.”
Penn Badgley and Chase Crawford were only 20 when they first started filming Gossip Girl, and their careers have come a long way since.
“It was very hard to watch,” Badgley said. “These snapshots of yourself when you’re 20, 21, 22 years old. Who can enjoy that? Sometimes it’s just uncomfortable.”
Today, Penn Badgley plays Joe Goldberg in the Netflix thriller, You. And in a way, Joe Goldberg is a lot like Dan Humphrey… just a lot more creepy and stalker-ish. But as a whole, You and Gossip Girl are completely differently in many ways, which shows how much Badgley has grown as an actor.
“It’s interesting to me, because also, man, to be honest, we move on from Gossip Girl to playing despicable white male privileged guys,” Crawford said during the interview. “What’s interesting about Joe — it is almost like an odd continuation of Dan.”
Chase Crawford, who once played the hopeless romantic hottie Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl, is now starring as The Deep in the Amazon original series, The Boys. His character on this show is strikingly different, as The Deep has supernatural powers and the ability to breathe underwater.
All in all, both Crawford and Badgley have come a long way in their careers. And as for the future of Gossip Girl, a reboot is in the works, which they’re both curious about.
“Dude, I’m so interested to see what it’s like.” Badgley added. “I wish them well. I really am also interested to see how people react to it.”
