Daughter of singer Hank Williams Jr. dies at age 27 in rollover car crash while driving with her husband in Tennessee

The daughter of country singer Hank Williams Jr. was killed in a car crash on Saturday night while driving with her husband in Tennessee. She was 27.

Katherine Williams-Dunning, the youngest daughter of Williams Jr., was driving a 2007 Chevy Tahoe along Highway 79 in Henry County. 

People reports that Katherine’s SUV suddenly crossed the center median and rolled over, before it ultimately came to a stop at the shoulder.

The vehicle, which was towing a boat, drove across the northbound lanes around 7:45pm. 

Katherine died shortly after the crash and her husband Tyler Dunning, 29, was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He is currently hospitalized and the extent of his injuries have not been disclosed. A family member said he is alive and responsive.

There were no other cars involved in the crash.

It’s unclear why the 2007 Chevy Tahoe, driven by Katherine (pictured) crashed and an investigation by Tennessee authorities is underway

‘This is an active investigation and more details will be made available later,’ a spokesman with The Paris Post-Intelligencer.

Katherine is the daughter of Williams Jr. and his third wife, Mary Jane Thomas.  

She married Tyler Dunning in 2015 and has two children, five-year-old Beau and two-year-old Audrey Lane. 

The couple owns a clothing line together called Weston Jane.

On Hank William Jr.’s birthday, Katherine shared a sweet post on Instagram where she admitted she has  ‘always been a daddy’s girl’

‘Take 1 & Take 2 & Take 3 at a family beach picture,’ Katherine wrote on May 20.

‘These days are wild with a 2 and 5 year old! In January this year, I decided to be more present and be more peaceful in all aspects of life. 

‘These kids will not pose for a picture but as long as they are having fun and feeling loved by mom & dad, surely we are halfway doing this parenting thing right!

A photo shared on May 26 shows a throwback photo of Katherine and her father for his birthday.  

‘A throwback to show y’all that I have always been a daddy’s girl!’ she wrote.

‘My birthday to my Daddio, my hero! The lessons you have taught me in this life are by far some of the most precious gifts that I will ever receive!’

Sam Williams, Katherine’s younger brother, was the first to announce the crash on his Facebook in a now-deleted post.

‘My sister and brother in law have been in a terrible accident. Please pray for them so hard! Katie Williams and Tyler Dunning,’ he wrote.

‘On Friday morning I talked the family into taking this picture and had no idea it would be our last together with my precious little sister Katie,’ Holly wrote.

‘We all went to my great aunts funeral on Thursday whom we all loved dearly, and now are faced with another one. ALL we need is prayers.’

She revealed that Dunning is awake and responsive, but provided no further details of his condition. 

Grammy award-winning country singer Travis Tritt called the the death of Katherine ‘heartbreaking.’

‘This news is just heartbreaking. My family and I knew Katie ever since she was a kid,’ he wrote on Twitter.

‘I cannot even imagine what Hank, Mary Jane and the rest of the Williams family are going through right now. Please say a prayer for all of them and share your love any way you can.’ 

Hank Williams Jr., 71, is a country artist who is the son of famous singer-songwriter Hank Williams. 

His 1984 song ‘All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight’ was retooled to ‘All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night’ for broadcasts of ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

The song was used from 1989 to 2011, but made a return to open the show in 2017.
