This month, a deeply good and very funny Gossip Girl meme swallowed Twitter whole, and it’s already being embraced by one of its subjects: Blake Lively. Needless to say, her contribution to the conversation was inspired.
ICYMI, a Gossip Girl-themed meme has been making a splash on Twitter in recent days. According to Know Your Meme, the post that kickstarted the trend was created by Twitter user @bario_tokiyo. The meme uses early Gossip Girl promotional photos of Blake and former co-star Leighton Meester, in character as Serena and Blair respectively, talking to one another.
In one box, Serena asks Blair a question or making a casual statement. Below, Blair responds to Serena with a slightly altered or anagrammed version of the show’s title, Gossip Girl. So, in @bario_tokiyo’s tweet, they shared the meme which showed Serena saying, “i have to pee,” to which Blair is seen responding, “go p*ss girl.”
Well, on April 16, Blake acknowledged the Gossip Girl meme taking Twitter by storm by posting a version of it on her Instagram Story. Using the same format, the meme goes a little something like this: Serena asks Blair, “What should I wear to the supermarket?” and Blair responds, “Gloves girl.” The reference, of course, comes at a time when people are social distancing and taking extra safety measures (like wearing masks and gloves) to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
So far, Blake is the only OG Gossip Girl cast member to have weighed in on the viral meme. But not gonna lie, I’d love to see what Leighton or even Penn Badgley may have to contribute. For now, you can check out the Gossip Girl meme Blake shared below, as well as previous popular takes on the meme making their way through the Twittersphere.
