After My Boondocks Café in Menasha fills its last pickup orders on Easter, it will close for good.

The homey café is at 400 Third Street, in a portion of the former Fox Cinema Café. It was known for its skillet breakfasts and French toast bake. It had scratch bakery and lemon meringue pie.

Owner Amanda Thompson opened the cafe in October 2018, and is closing now because the coronavirus shutdown was too much for the small business to handle.

“Nobody was ready for this,” she said. “We’re on week four now and nobody knows when it will end.”

The cafe was primarily dine-in, so it was a feat to switch to carryout only.

While she did get some takeout business, “it’s not consistent enough,” she said.

At the end, she was running the business as a sole proprietor, sole employee and sole cook.

“Today was pretty challenging,” she said on Thursday.

Thompson told her Facebook fans. “I do hope to reopen at a later date and different location.”

But at the moment, she doesn’t have those plans made.

“I definitely hope to open the same exact thing again,” she said. “Possibly a smaller location, still in the Fox Cities.”
