One New York dad is taking kid-entertaining during the coronavirus lockdown to new heights.
Brooklynite John Cirillo knew he had to adhere to the stay-at-home order due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so on March 29, after about two weeks of at-home lockdown, the dad of two-and-a-half-year-old son Cassius decided to attach the toddler’s favorite toy, Buzz Lightyear, to a drone, sending it soaring through Brooklyn — and beyond.
The “Toy Story” character got a bird’s eye view of the borough, even if the Cirillo family couldn’t.
Cirillo says his son “loves making anything fly. When we showed him ‘Toy Story,’ he became obsessed with Buzz [Lightyear], so we ordered him a figure,” Cirillo tells Storyful.
“He runs around the house pretending to fly him all day long,” the dad adds. “Once I had the thought, it was a no-brainer.”
It’s just one creative way parents are trying to humor their kids in quarantine — to say nothing of making TikTok videos, taking virtual visits to the Boston Children’s Museum and baking binges.
One baking kit includes every component to whip up coronavirus-inspired chocolate chunk cookies, cupcakes or granola bars.
And when speaking Pig Latin loses its novelty, parents are turning to Duolingo, a free online language learning program designed to help people age 10 and up learn through “bite-sized” lessons.
