It’s no secret that Gossip Girl has been a binge-worthy show ever since it premiered in 2007. This series never fails to deliver the most unexpected twists and turns. Gossip Girl has become a cult-classic that fans love to watch and re-watch, time and time again thanks to its interesting characters and ever-evolving storylines.

While this show has had some great plotlines, not all of them have been winners. From Dan getting together with his teacher to Jenny getting banished from New York, there’s definitely a few storylines that fans could have gone without.
10 Dan Getting Together With Miss Carr
Storylines that glamorize student-teacher relationships are rarely favored by audiences, this one included. Rachel Carr was only in three episodes, and all three were pretty messy. Most of the drama revolving around Rachel was due to Blair seeking revenge for a bad grade. Things got out of hand and Blair ended up circulating a rumor that Miss Carr was seeing Dan.
Of course, this was an extremely serious allegation but it wasn’t true – at least until Miss Carr thought she was fired. She and Dan ended up getting together and when things went up in flames she retreated to Iowa.
9 Chuck’s Aggressive Behavior
For years, Gossip Girl fans have questioned why the characters of the series let Chuck get away with how he treated women in earlier seasons. In season one alone, viewers witness Chuck attempt to sexually assault both Jenny and Serena. There was very little backlash for Chuck after everything was said and done.
In addition to the lack of legal action taken against Chuck, his friends failed to hold him accountable for his actions as well. This was definitely a turn-off for fans and it made it hard to root for Chuck as a character.
8 Jenny Becoming A Drug Dealer
Fans were rooting for Little J from the beginning. In season one, Jenny was an incredibly likable character. She was mature for her age, she was a good sister to Dan, and she even stood up for herself against Blair. Unfortunately, Jenny lost her likability as the series progressed.
In season three, Jenny met Damien who convinced her that she needed more danger in her life so she started helping him with his drug-dealing operation. This was really disappointing for fans and it was truly the beginning of Jenny’s demise as her character left the show shortly after.
7 Rufus Dating Ivy
This plotline was just creepy all around and fans wanted no part of it. For many seasons, Rufus put on a good front and appeared to be a solid father with good values. However, as the series progressed viewers started to see the real Rufus. He was often selfish and was relatively hypocritical when it came to the wisdom he tried to pass onto his kids.

For instance, he allowed himself to date Ivy – a character who was at one time pretending to be his step-niece. This storyline felt all around inappropriate and viewers could have definitely done without it.
6 Dan And Georgina’s Baby
Even though Dan wasn’t every fan’s favorite character, no one wanted to see Georgina hurt him as she did in season four. Viewers were pretty confused when Georgina showed up with Dan’s supposed baby. Although Rufus wasn’t completely sold on the idea that Milo was truly Dan’s son, Dan didn’t want to question it.
Unfortunately, Dan had already gotten attached by the time he realized Milo wasn’t actually his. Not only was this sad for fans to watch, but this storyline felt out of place and better suited for a soap opera.
5 Nate And Sage
This series loves to create odd-couples. In season six, Nate began to date a 17-year-old high school girl, Sage. As if this wasn’t creepy enough, Serena was dating Sage’s father at the same time. While Nate didn’t know how young Sage was when they first met, he continued to date her even after finding out her true age.

At this point in the series, it felt like the show was grasping for straws trying to come up with interesting storylines. Unfortunately, this specific plot wasn’t popular among fans and it only made viewers question their love for Nate’s character.
4 Lily And Rufus’s Child
The entire storyline revolving around Lily and Rufus’s child, Scott, felt half-baked. This character came out of nowhere, caused drama for approximately six episodes and then disappeared for the rest of the series. This was pretty odd considering in “Rufus Getting Married”, fans watched Scott bond with the entire van der Woodsen and Humphrey clan.
This episode seemed like a big deal considering Rufus and Lily had finally connected with their long-lost child. However, the fact that Scott was never seen again shows just how unimportant and unnecessary this storyline really was.
3 Jenny Getting Banished From New York
Jenny’s entire journey in this series was certainly a hard one to witness. She started out as a fan-favorite character but became more and more frustrating to watch as the series went on. Between becoming the Queen of Constance and being awful to Eric, her character became insufferable.
However, no matter how annoying Jenny became, she didn’t deserve the aggressive send-off that she received from Blair Waldorf. Jenny was a big part of Gossip Girl for three seasons so fans definitely expected more of a heart-warming goodbye.
2 Blair And Dan’s Relationship
This relationship wasn’t necessarily wrong, but it was absolutely controversial among the Gossip Girl fandom. Blair and Dan disliked one another for years, not to mention they had very little in common aside from their friendship with Serena. It simply didn’t feel authentic for these two characters to ever want to date one another.

Many fans of the series believed that Blair and Dan’s relationship lacked chemistry and felt forced. It’s likely that the writers were just trying to spice things up but most viewers wish they would have passed on this storyline.
1 Gossip Girl’s Identity
Many Gossip Girl fans will agree that the most hated storyline of all time is Dan being revealed as Gossip Girl. Viewers invested years into this series and spent countless hours trying to figure out Gossip Girl’s true identity. The fandom was furious when the finale revealed that Dan was supposedly the gossip blogger this entire time.
This conclusion was underwhelming and confusing at best. It’s clear that the writers were just phoning it in with this series ending. Over the years, many fans have pointed out plot holes within the show that make it virtually impossible for Dan to truly be Gossip Girl.
