Former Love Island star Theo Campbell has revealed he’s considering having a “risky” surgery on his eye in an effort to restore the sight in his right eye.
The 28 year old athlete has spoken of his plans to have a cornea transplant after he lost full sight in his right eye in a horrific accident while partying in Ibiza in August last year, which saw a flying Champagne cork hit him in the eye.
Hunky Theo, who shared a shocking video of himself seconds after the accident last year, spoke of the plans after revealing the injury has “got him down” at times.
He told The Sun: “I might get something called a corneal eye transplant, but it could reject it.
“It’s blurry now, but my other eye is fine. I’ve kind of adapted to it. I have sulked. I have been down, but I’m like most people I don’t cry on my Instagram.
“I accepted it won’t get better. It’s not able to magically heal up. It’s been seven months now.
“If my eye does reject it, it could be worse. I can see colours and shapes and see people are there, but the procedure could make it worse. It’s risky.”
According to the NHS, a cornea transplant is an “operation to remove all or part of a damaged cornea and replace it with healthy donor tissue”.
In terms of risks with the procedure, the NHS website adds: “As with all types of surgery, there is a risk of complications resulting from a cornea transplant.
“These can include the new cornea being rejected by the body, infection and further vision problems.”
Theo’s decision comes just a week over he announced he has split from Love Island star Kaz Crossley after months of dating.
Speaking on FUBAR radio the reality star revealed: “I don’t wanna say too much but I’m gonna say, people these days and love these days, it’s confusing.
“It’s a tricky hard world. I feel like with us, I kinda gave it my everything and it feels a bit under-appreciated.
“It’s a bit crazy at the moment,” he added. “I don’t know what to call it. What’s the right way to say it? I got slinged! I don’t know what to call it.”
He then explained he felt he had been “sold a dream” by Kaz, who partied with her Love Island friends days after her breakup was revealed.
Theo continued: “I met Kaz and I was like, she might be a bit different.
“We had the best relationship ever. It was the best! The first six months, seven months, amazing. Then it was kinda like, I dunno, something just happened…”
He then added: “From all the girlfriends I’ve ever had, you get to the six month magical marker, they get comfy and then start thinking: ‘I’ve got him now, I’ve got him hooked. That is it. I’ll do what I want now.’
“I feel like girls, they keep their real emotions bottled up for the six months, selling the dream, and then six months they’re like: ‘I’ve got him now and now I can be myself!’”
