REAL BACK FOR DE GEA
In these often dark and uncertain times, there is something strangely comforting about the re-emergence of Real Madrid’s interest in David De Gea.
The Manchester United keeper was linked with Real every year between 2014 and 2018 but eventually, it was Thibaut Courtois who got the big move and De Gea stayed at Old Trafford on a fat new contract.
But The Sun reckons Real are sniffing around the Spain stopper once more. Zinedine Zidane is still a huge fan and Belgium’s Mr Tickle has endured a tough 18 months since moving to the Bernabeu from Chelsea.
The difference this time could be United’s willingness to do business. De Gea has shown some ropey form over the last year – as well as flashes of the usual brilliance – and Dean Henderson’s emergence offers the Red Devils a homegrown replacement.
Apparently, United would demand £70million for De Gea, which is hardly unreasonable if we use the Courtois, Alisson and Kepa Arrizabalaga fees as a benchmark.
JUVENTUS TARGET ZIDANE RETURN
All that is assuming Zidane remains at Real next season…
Juventus are said to be keen to bring their former midfielder back to Turin to take over from Maurizio Sarri this summer. The Daily Mail reckons there would be a £7million-a-year deal on the table for Zidane, which is the highest salary Juve can pay a manager without breaking their own corporate policy.
Juve are still paying Max Allegri a salary despite their former coach being axed last year. That arrangement ends this summer, when it is said Allegri could replace Zidane at Real.
REAL AND BARCA EYE CHELSEA PRODIGY
Regardless who occupies the dugout at the Bernabeu next season, it seems Real will retain their interest in Chelsea’s starlet Billy Gilmour. And they are not alone in chasing the teenager.
A report in Spain from El Desmarque suggests both Real and Barcelona want Gilmour following his emergence through the Chelsea ranks. There is also domestic interest from Manchester City, who were keen prior to the youngster moving from Rangers to Stamford Bridge in 2017.
Of course, none of this really matters except perhaps to Gilmour’s agent when it comes to negotiating a new deal for the 18-year-old. Chelsea would be mad to sell one of their most exciting young prospects and Gilmour can clearly see there is a pathway to becoming a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge.
AND THE REST
Man City want to give Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling new deals… Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants £300,000 a week to sign a new deal at Arsenal… Tottenham will challenge Liverpool and Man Utd for Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell… Chelsea are in talks with VfL Bochum over defender Armel Bella-Kotchap… Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are both keen on PSG right-back Thomas Meunier.
