The last Quiznos Sub shop in the Fox Cities closed at 3825 E. Calumet St. in Appleton, in the strip mall east of Walmart, around the end of February.
Prior Quiznos locations in Kaukauna and Grand Chute, owned by different franchisees, closed in 2013 and 2016 respectively.
The Calumet Street Quiznos survived for 17 years despite its parent company’s turmoil and meltdown.
The Denver-based Quiznos chain saw hundreds of its franchised locations close in the recession. It faced a class action lawsuit from unhappy franchisees who said they were not making a profit. It filed for bankruptcy in 2014.
From a peak of nearly 5,000 locations in 2007, the chain dwindled to about 800 at the time it was sold to a private equity firm in 2018.
On Calumet Street, franchise owner Brook Nienhaus posted a note on the door that read, “After 17 years, I am sadly saying goodbye to all of our guests and moving on to the next chapter of my life. Thank you for a great run.”
