UH tackle Josh Jones generating plenty of buzz at Senior Bowl

University of Houston left tackle Josh Jones made an impression this week during Senior Bowl workouts.
Jones, who officially checked in at 6-5 and 311 pounds, is currently projected as a Day 1 or Day 2 option for many teams.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has Jones as the third-best offensive tackle prospect, behind Andrew Thomas of Georgia and Tristan Wirfs of Iowa. Kiper currently projects Jones to go No. 25 overall to the Minnesota Vikings.
“Where he’s at right now, I’d expect Josh Jones to be a 1st rounder,” Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy tweeted this week.
A look at some of the chatter regarding Jones from Mobile, Ala.:

The 6-7, 310-pound Jones has the size and athleticism made significant strides in his footwork this season to get into the first-round conversation. The Jets could re-sign (Kelvin) Beachum and draft Jones to play on the right side for a year before moving him over to the blind side. Or they could land one of few quality tackle options in free agency and draft Jones to be the left tackle from day one.
At UH, Jones was a mainstay on the offensive line and one of the best pass-blocking tackles in the nation. His 93.2 percent grade was the second highest among tackles this season, according to Pro Football Focus. It was the best grade ever given to an offensive tackle outside the so-called Power Five.
“I just get the job done,” Jones said of his pass protection, via the Daily News. “This year I let up four pressures… and a half a sack. I’m dominant at it. I take pride in it. If I give up a pressure, if I’m even close to (giving up) a sack, I’m kicking myself in the butt. It’s just pride. I feel like every O-lineman has that pride.”
CBS Sports’ evaluation of Jones this week called him a “best player at the Senior Bowl” candidate.
It didn’t matter if it was a speed rush to the outside, an inside counter, a bull rush, or a swipe move, Jones stymied everything all afternoon for the North squad.
Could Jones be an option for Miami? The Dolphins have the Nos. 18 and 26 picks and are in desperate need of help on the offensive line.

From the Palm Beach Post
The Post notes Jones allowed only 18 pressures in 1,282 pass-blocking snaps over three years.

Again, Jones is the best offensive line prospect in Mobile and in one on ones took a guy to the ground and absolutely ran the defender over. His stock has risen exponentially since the start of the week.
