Reader question: The old Sky Zone Trampoline Park, which then became Vertical Velocity, looks to be closed in Darboy. Perhaps the region can handle only so many indoor play places?
Answer: Vertical Velocity Trampoline Park closed in Darboy late last year, about the time two new indoor play parks, Urban Air Adventure Park and Altitude Trampoline Park, opened in Grand Chute.
Vertical Velocity, also called V2, was at W3169 Van Roy Road, in the strip mall between Planet Fitness and Festival Foods. It took over from Sky Zone about a year ago.
Vertical Velocity told its Facebook fans it was closing “due to the decline in attendance, the new parks in the area and the rising cost of operating,” in a Nov. 18 post.
Court records show the building’s owner, GLC 3169 Van Roy LLC, filed to evict the trampoline park on Oct. 25.
Vertical Velocity owner Zac Wittman said there were unresolved issues at the time with the landlord fixing a leaky roof.
“We had to close (due to) the roof being damaged and ruining our equipment,” he wrote in a message to The Post-Crescent.
He said Vertical Velocity could return in a different location in the future.
“At this time we are working with a company that would like to take over the Vertical Velocity name,” he said. “I will be helping with the day-to-day operations of the opening with the new company.”
Remaining Sky Zone gift cards will not be honored going forward, he said.
“As far as Vertical Velocity gift cards, this has not been decided as we are working out the details with the company (that) would like to take it over,” Wittman said.
Vertical Velocity’s remaining bookings and birthday parties in 2019 were transferred over to Xtreme Air inside Players Choice near Appleton’s north side.
Xtreme Air general manager Dawn Cavaiani is currently looking for an instructor to resume V2’s trampoline aerobics program at her facility.
