Five jurors were picked Thursday for Harvey Weinstein’s sex assault trial.
Two black women, one black man and two white men were selected from a pool of approximately 140 pre-screened jurors.
During the questioning process, Justice James Burke reminded the panel that they are expected to decide the case on the evidence.
“This trial is not a referendum on the Me Too movement,” he said, as Weinstein watched from the defense table. “Again, the sole issue is for you to decide whether or not the defendant committed certain acts which constitute a particular crime.”
It was the eighth day of jury selection, and seven more jurors and six alternates are still needed to complete the panel.
The process will continue this afternoon in Manhattan Supreme Court.
Weinstein, 67, is charged with two counts of predatory sexual assault, two counts of rape and one count of criminal sex act stemming from the allegations of three women.
Opening statements are slated for Jan. 22.
