Reader question: I see a small “for sale” sign at the Fox Valley Roller Rink. I heard there was some health issue. Just curious if you heard anything?
Answer: Dave and Connie Buksyk own the Fox Valley Roller Rink. It’s the blue building with the word “Skating” on top, visible from Interstate 41, at 1215 Gillingham Road in Neenah.
Dave said Connie is being treated for cancer and is doing well. “It didn’t have anything to do with selling the rink,” he said.
The main motivation to look for a buyer is their look down the road towards retirement.
“I’m going to be 65 this summer and it’s time to retire,” he said.
The roller rink, which his father built in 1962, will stay open until they find a buyer. So for the near future, nothing will change.
Buksyk is asking $850,000 for both the business and the property, which has a 16,000-square-foot building on land just shy of two acres.
See a related story about the enduring appeal of roller rinks written by my colleague Shane Nyman. The story was published in February and is called “‘Busy as Ever’: Fox Cities roller rinks keep speeding along.”
