Three Standout Players In Flyers Shootout Loss To Islanders by Benjamin Gabrych
This week’s serving of Broad Street Buzz content you might have missed.
We kicked off the week by putting a spotlight on Philadelphia Flyers forward prospects Tanner Laczynski and Noah Cates, who have played well in the NCAA so far this season.
The Flyers returned home following a two-game road trip to take on the Washington Capitals with their four-game winning streak at stake.
While they lost to the Capitals 2-1 in a shootout, the Flyers still kept their point streak alive, extending it to seven as they pushed yet another game to extras.
Philadelphia faced another test coming off of a tough stretch of games, as they needed to take care of business against a lowly Ottawa Senators team in the first half of yet another round of back-to-backs on the weekend.
Coming into the game riding a two-game pointless drought, the Flyers could’ve used a big performance out of James van Riemsdyk as they took on the Senators on the road.
JvR and the entire Flyers team had their chances early on, but ended up playing down to their competition and lost to Ottawa by a score of 2-1.
Scoring a mere two goals in their last two games and netting less than three in regulation in their last five, Philadelphia needed to cash in on their chances offensively as they took on a defensively sound New York Islanders squad.
And they did, taking a three-goal lead into the third period, but the Flyers pulled a Flyers and blew the advantage in the final 20-minute frame, eventually losing to their Metropolitan Division foe 4-3 in a shootout. Here are three players who stood out in the contest.
