Benidorm star Johnny Vegas, 49, took to Twitter around 5pm yesterday, writing: “See you in the next life x Night all.”
Many of the actor’s 338,000 followers swiftly flocked to his post to query the tweet.
One user wrote: “Hope you’re ok mate xxx,” while another wrote: “Was just going to bed. Now I’m probably not going to get a wink worrying about what this means xxx.”
A third penned: “How to panic the whole country in one tweet.”
Many other social media users pointed out that the quote is from the movie Midnight Run.
After learning he had concerned fans, Johnny addressed his tweet, telling fans he is “absolutely fine”.
He wrote: “I’m absolutely fine.
“Apologies to anyone who hadn’t read my earlier Twitter thread, I was merely quoting the end of a favourite movie ‘Midnight Run’.
“Sorry if it lead to unnecessary concern, all grand here X.”
The actor’s post comes after Homes Under The Hammer star Martin Roberts, 56, teased a potential future move with Johnny.
At the TV Choice Awards 2019 last month, Martin shared a picture of the pair alongside the caption: “Fab to meet @JohnnyVegasReal and here’s a scoop.
“He’s a huge fan of the show and I hope we may do a Hammer spoof for @comicrelief which would be AWESOME.”(sic)
Comic Relief seemed impressed with the idea, as they replied: “We’re listening.”
Other Twitter users championed the idea, with one writing: “Great picture Martin and the comic relief idea is fabulous.
“You could have Dion talking about the stairs and bedrooms with Johnny sleeping in one of them.”
Another wrote: “How about someone who buys a house at auction and makes it look worse than it was after they have done it up.”
But for now, Johnny has been focusing on his comedy and recently made an appearance at Grimm festival.
The actor is widely known for his appearances in Benidorm, Still Open All Hours and Ideal.
He is also a regular panelist on QI, having starred in 12 episodes as of 2019.
