Hard work pays off! Jennifer Lopez has every reason to feel proud right now. With her recent movie Hustlers receiving rave reviews and even Oscar buzz, the 50-year-old couldn’t be happier.
And that happiness came out in the form of tears on SiriusXM radio on Tuesday. The actress chatted with Today host Hoda Kotb, who read out loud a positive movie review from The Hollywood Reporter.

“Jennifer Lopez is poised to land her first Oscar nomination for Hustlers,” she read. When Lopez appeared to get visibly choked up, Kotb quipped, “I’m sorry, you are allowed! PEOPLE magazine said the same thing, Daily Beast said the same thing. Can you just sit with that for one second?”

The mother-of-two, who made her acting debut when she was only a 16-year-old, couldn’t help but feel grateful for all of the positive feedback. “I’ve just been working hard for so long for my whole life. It’s nice,” she said through tears. “Sorry, you guys know I’m emotional!”
“I literally sat in my bed yesterday and they were sending me all the reviews. I could not believe it,” she continued. “I was crying, me and my girlfriend of 20 years were sitting there and she was trying to film me. I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ You work hard your whole life and you wonder if anybody notices in a sense, on that level, to be in that conversation. You have dreams when you’re a little girl of being [at the Oscars], you know what I mean?”

Hustlers, also starring Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Cardi B, and Lizzo, follows a group of strippers who embezzle money from successful men who visit their club. The film is expected to gross $25M in its domestic debut this weekend—a record high for Lopez in a live action movie—according to The Hollywood Reporter.
