It seems like the Grand Chute/Appleton hub gets most of the attention when it comes to splashy new stores and restaurants.
Firsts include national stores like the coming H&M and restaurants like P.F. Chang’s, Popeyes and Chick-fil-A. National companies like the magnetism and regional draw of the Fox River Mall.
But neighbors to the north and south haven’t been ignored.
Green Bay and Oshkosh have a number of interesting projects on the way.
Two examples:
•Dave and Buster’s, a restaurant/bar/arcade, is taking a portion of the vacant former Younkers Furniture Gallery space in Bay Park Square, reported Jeff Bollier of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The space is 27,000 square feet and can accommodate nearly 300 people. It will open late 2020.
•The Mineshaft is a huge restaurant/bar/game room that plans to open in May in Oshkosh. It’s a branch of the massive Mineshaft restaurant in Hartford — halfway between Fond du Lac and Milwaukee — that can seat 500 people and is famous for its fish fries. Oshkosh Northwestern reporter Lydia Slattery wrote about the 35,000-square-foot restaurant breaking ground earlier this month at 2041 S. Koeller St., the vacant site of a Walmart that moved 15 years ago.
