The gap-toothed celebrities of the world – Lara Stone, Madonna, Lauren Hutton – can breathe a sigh of relief; for there is one less to compete with. Dakota Johnson has reportedly closed up her trademark gap between her front teeth which, previously, had been wide enough to fit everything from a credit card to a twig, as per a Vanity Fair video she filmed back in 2017.

Twitter learned of the news after pictures emerged of Johnson attending the premiere of The Peanut Butter Falcon, a film she stars in alongside Shia LaBeouf that will be released in the USA in August.

Forget “Perfect” Teeth… Fashion’s Coolest Smiles Are Crooked

Quite rightly, fans are proclaiming their total, utter devastation on Twitter at the loss of Johnson’s gap: “This is the saddest I’ve ever been. RIP Dakota Johnson’s tooth gap” said one; another “Rest in peace to Dakota Johnson’s tooth gap, a legend in our community.”

While many in the limelight choose to embrace their gaps and otherwise less than “perfect” teeth – and are rightly applauded for it – there are, however, plenty that do opt to close them, like Zac Efron and Demi Lovato. With numerous treatments available to close a gap – composite bonding (where resin is applied to the tooth to change its shape) crowns, veneers or braces – it’s unclear exactly which treatment Johnson has had done, but if the uproar on Twitter is anything to go by, it seems her fans are hoping it’s not permanent.
