Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still relatively new parents, having welcomed baby Archie just a couple of months ago, but there’s plenty of speculation over when the couple will have a second child. Whether or not another baby is on their radar just yet remains to be seen but, according to a royal author, the couple hopes to have “a big family.”
They want Archie to have siblings
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, royal author Katie Nicholl shared that Prince Harry and Markle are “loving parenthood” and want to give Archie a sibling soon.
Nicholl noted: “I think it’s probably a little
premature to be speaking about a second baby. That said, sources close to the
couple told me that they really would love to have a big family.”
She called them “amazing parents” to their first
child, adding, “They absolutely want siblings for Archie, so possibly we
will have a pregnancy announcement for Meghan and Harry sometime next year.”
Nicholl shared that “for the moment, the focus is obviously
on Archie.”
Will Prince Harry and Markle announce a second pregnancy soon?
Interestingly, online betting site Coral had slashed the odds of Meghan having another baby next year after being “inundated” with bets from fans. Coral spokesperson John Hill commented: “We have been inundated over the last few days with bets on Harry and Meghan having a second baby in 2020, and as always with gambles of this kind, there is seldom smoke without fire.”
The odds of the couple having a child in 2020 are now 10-11, while Ladbrokes slashed their odds on a 2020 royal baby to 6/1. Ladbrokes spokesperson Alex Apatis shared: “Baby fever could soon be taking over the Royal Family once again and despite only giving birth a matter of weeks ago, we wouldn’t be surprised if Harry and Meghan have the bug.”
The couple are reportedly trying to keep Archie out of the spotlight
While rumblings of a second pregnancy swirl, it’s evident the couple are working on being parents to Archie right now and determining how to best give him as “ordinary” of an upbringing as possible, given their unique circumstances.
Royal correspondent and author Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight recently: “I think the couple are determined for Archie to have as normal a life as possible. You have to remember that Prince Harry grew up very much in the spotlight, never far away from the gaze of the camera. And at points in his life that has been something, he has resented.”
To achieve this, she shared that her “understanding is that at Frogmore they have essentially built a fortress.” She explained, “One of their closest friends told me it was their oasis, their sanctuary, where they’re going to raise their child away from the spotlight.”
“They are tucked away there, they are set in acres of
beautiful green space. You cannot get close to the property and behind the
walls of Frogmore Cottage, Archie is enjoying, albeit a privilege lifestyle, a
remarkably ordinary lifestyle,” she further shared.
Prince Harry is ‘fiercely protective’ of their first born
Prince Harry is reportedly doing everything he can to keep Archie out of the spotlight that he endured growing up, with a royal insider telling Daily Express that, “with the exception of his time in the forces Harry has lived his entire life in the goldfish bowl of public scrutiny.”
The insider noted: “And, although he recognizes his duty, he
is fiercely determined to protect his newborn from the glare of public opinion
which he has had to bear — which became especially oppressive when he lost his
mother Diana.”
As a result, the insider noted, “Harry is fiercely protective of Archie and has promised him he will never have to go through that. Of course, Meghan, who has lived a large part of her life in front of cameras, agrees wholeheartedly. He’ll basically protect Archie with his life.”
