This week’s serving of Broad Street Buzz content you might have missed.
We started the week highlighting the play of defensive prospects Moritz Seider and what he could bring to the Philadelphia Flyers farm system.
The Flyers officially publicized their preseason schedule for the 2019-20 season, including one of those games being in Switzerland.
General Manager Chuck Fletcher made yet another trade, acquiring defenseman Justin Braun from the San Jose Sharks for a 2019 second and 2020 third round pick.
Fletcher continued making moves, as he was able to get a deal done with forward Kevin Hayes, signing the 6’5 centerman to a seven-year, 50 million dollar contract.
In the final installment of the NHL Draft Spotlight series, Alex Turcotte is a tremendous all-around player, but the Flyers would likely have to trade up in order to draft him.
Further details on Hayes’ contract with the Flyers were revealed by Fletcher to the public.
The 2019 NHL Awards were announced, and some Flyers players received votes in respective categories.
Before the 2019 NHL Entry Draft got underway, we released a full Flyers-only seven-round mock draft and gave everything that was needed to know about the draft pertaining to Philadelphia.
The Flyers traded down from pick number 11 and selected defenseman Cam York with the 14th overall selection. We also graded Fletcher’s first pick as Flyers GM here.
Fletcher, then, traded up in the second round and chose goal-scoring forward Bobby Brink at 34.
In rounds 3-7, the Flyers chose two more defensemen, another two forwards, and goaltender to finish out the draft in Vancouver.
After the draft ended, the NHL finalized their salary cap for the 2019-20 campaign and the Flyers, like any other team in the league, are sure to be affected by it.

With the draft in the past, the Flyers will now set their sights on the free agent market, where they’ll have to re-sign some Restricted Free Agents and likely need to find some bargain options if they want a UFA, as well.
