Instagram crashed yesterday, meaning you may have missed Taylor Swift’s livestream, in which she revealed details of Lover, her new album, and some exciting projects tied to the record’s release. Of chief importance for fashion fans, though—at least after her new, Pride-themed anthem “You Need to Calm Down”—is the news that Swift will be collaborating with British designer Stella McCartney on a line of products surrounding the launch of Lover, later this summer. During the livestream, Swift said of the designer, “She’s been a friend for a really long time and also just a woman who I respect so much. I respect what she creates, how she creates it. There’s so much whimsy and imagination and romance to the clothing that she designs. I’ve worn a lot of her stuff recently, and she’s heard the new album, and this new collaboration is inspired by the Lover album.”
Additional details about the project are scant, though it’s highly likely, given the designer’s track record, that the collection will be sustainable and (let’s be real) rainbow-colored. Since launching her brand in 2001, McCartney has been at the forefront of the eco-movement; she does not use fur or leather in her collections and has developed a sneaker made without any toxic glues. The brand’s environmentally conscious mission is a natural fit for Swift, who is using her new music as an empowering vehicle for the rights of women and the LGBTQ community. What’s more, McCartney has plenty of rock ’n’ roll cred. After all, she is the daughter of Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney—perhaps a Swift–Sir Paul collab is in the works, too? We’ll have to wait until Lover launches, on August 23, to know for sure.
