People love old tv shows and most of them can be watched today with messages that are still very much relevant. Jimmy Kimmel constantly saw those musicals that they bring to tv and he wondered if he could bring TV back to TV so he got Norman Lear involved and now tonight we have their long title of a tv show, ‘Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons”
‘All in the Family’ ran from 1971 – 79 with ‘The Jeffersons’ spinning off halfway through running from 1975 – 85. Both shows were known for discussing anything relevant to the times including race, the economy, families, and more. The show was loved by many, so the cast line up is stellar, to say the least.
For ‘All in the Family’ we have a cast of Woody Harrelson playing Archie Bunker, Marisa Tomei as Edith, Ike Barinholtz as Mike Stivic, Elle Kemper as Gloria, Anthony Anderson as Henry Jefferson, and Sean Hayes as Mr. Lorenzo. Meanwhile on ‘The Jeffersons’ is Jamie Foxx as George Jefferson, Wanda Sykes as Louise, Justina Machado as Florence, Will Ferrell as Tom Willis, Kerry Washington as Helen, Jovan Adepo as Lionel, and Amber Stevens West as Jenny
While I have only seen a couple of episodes of each show on TV Land, there’s something kind of exciting about this. Hopefully, it does well and then who knows what show could come back for a night?
‘Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons” airs tonight, May 2, 2019, at 8 PM EST on ABC.
