Aquaman Has Record-Breaking Opening Weekend in China – IGN

Aquaman’s opening weekend in China is the biggest ever for Warner Bros.

Aquaman made its debut in China, and the box office numbers are strong for the Jason Momoa-starring film.

According to Warner Bros., Aquaman earned $93.6 million over the weekend in China. This was the largest opening ever for a D.C. title in China, outpacing previous titles like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($55.7 million opening) and Justice League ($50.5 million opening).

Aquaman also became the studio’s biggest opening ever, surpassing Ready Player One’s $61.6 million opening weekend back in March.

The film is currently the fourth biggest opening for a superhero film in China, falling behind Avengers: Infinity War ($191 million opening), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($155.7 million opening) and Venom ($107.6 million opening).

Domestically, the film is expected to earn $65 million during its opening weekend.

Aquaman opens in the U.K. on Dec. 12, in Australia on Dec. 13 and in the United States on Dec. 21. Amazon Prime members in the United States can see the film at select theaters on Dec. 15.
