Another election is over, and indeed the sun did come up this morning. Welcome to Wednesday, Wildcats.
Basketball
We’ll start with the good stuff this morning.
Adding to his ever-growing list of preseason accolades, Dean Wade was named a Preseason Top 50 candidate for the John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy’s in an announcement by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Nov. 6th. Wade was one of five Big 12 players on the watch list, joining Kansas’ Quentin Grimes and Dedric Lawson, Iowa State’s Lindell Wigginton, and West Virginia’s Sagaba Konate.
The Wildcats as a team are also getting a lot of love nationally, as ESPN college basketball analyst Seth Greenberg picked K-State as his surprise team in the Final Four.
Volleyball
The VolleyCats will look to ride the momentum of a home sweep of West Virginia last Saturday night as they head south to take on the No. 5 Texas Longhorns in Austin this evening. The Cats took Texas to 5 sets in Ahearn to open Big 12 play back on September 19th, and try to split the season with the heavily-favored Longhorns. Tonight’s match, scheduled for a 7pm CST start, will air on the Longhorn Network and stream live on the ESPN app. Rob Voelker will be on the call on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM) with free, live audio available at K-StateSports.com/watch.
Football
Yesterday, K-State football hosted their weekly press conference. And while many were expecting some “big” news, it was generally the standard press conference that we’ve come to expect from Bill Snyder this season — more deflection every week. After the head coach press conference was player availability, and K-State senior captain Dalton Risner backed his embattled head coach saying that the players are remain committed to Snyder (Arne Green, Capital-Journal).
The buzz that Snyder may be retiring soon isn’t just coming from local sources. Football Scoop, a generally reliable source for such news, reports that there is “building buzz within the coaching profession” that Snyder will retire this season, and announce sooner rather than later.
