Triiibe has become a positive and uplifting force in Greater Cincinnati in just a couple of years, both through music and boots-on-the-ground community activism. Those two elements of the trio are inseparable, and the trio is all in on both fronts, referring to themselves as “artivists.” The name of the project stands for “True Representation of Intellectual Individuals Invoking Black Excellence.”
Triiibe’s activism includes promoting things like urban gardening and wellness in local communities, feeding the homeless (which recently led to a fight with some local officials over permits that was ultimately worked out in Triiibe’s favor) and working with schools and libraries on educational and empowerment initiatives, among numerous other forms of action.
On the musical end, Siri Imani, Aziza Love and Pxvce regularly perform at a wide range of venues and events alongside an equally diverse range of artists. With a sound that blends aspects of poetry/spoken word, Hip Hop, Neo Soul, Funk and Jazz, Triiibe (then working as Blvck Seeds) received a huge national platform for its recorded debut. The trio was prominently featured on Funk legend and cultural icon Bootsy Collins’ World Wide Funk album last year, appearing on tracks alongside Hip Hop superheroes like MC Eiht and Chuck D. Last year, the group scored the Cincinnati Entertainment Award for R&B/Funk/Soul.
The trio is now gearing up for its own recording project. Today Triiibe released the single “Gossip,” along with the music video for the song. With a slinky groove, soulful melodies, thought-provoking rhymes and imaginative flow, “Gossip” is centered around how sometimes people are brought together by bringing down others. The lively video was created by Underground Assassin and Pxvce.
“This chill, catchy tune explores the hard truths of growing up in a society that tends to use gossiping as a bonding tool,” Triiibe says in a statement about the single. “Although the message is strong, the music video brings a fun and exciting vibe that seems to be timeless. Triiibe’s goal for their music is to provide representation of positive urban culture.”
