The Esquire team is currently on the ground at Paris Fashion Week, soaking up all the spring/summer 2019 shows have to offer. Each day, we’re rounding up the best of the best and telling you why we love it—and why you should have it on your radar. Here’s what caught our eye today.
GmbH
Strong and sexy were the names of the game at GmbH. The looks, both men’s and women’s, were powerful and direct. These are clothes to be noticed in, whether it was the tight, rash guard-y shirts, the denim with double zippers, those shiny PVC pants, or the high-waisted shorts. All that, plus the sharp tailoring was downright amazing. Power dressing has never looked better. — Matthew Marden

Off-White
It’s the mix that makes it modern, and this was certainly true at the latest collection for Off-White. Virgil Abloh is a master of combining a cornucopia of themes and inspirations into one cohesive collection, and this season it was clearly all about youth. Standouts were the ombré-ish color-blocked oversized coat, a black athletic shirt-and-short combo, and those Simpsons collaboration pieces; they’re sure to fly off the shelves, and rightly so. But hands down best in show was the tonal denim look with an asymmetrical buttoned denim jacket. Yes, denim on denim is a thing, and with the right pieces (as was the case here), it can work beautifully. — MM

Acne Studios
I’m a sucker for slouchy chic, and Acne Studios was all about a relaxed elegance for spring/summer 2019. The show was filled with a calming palette injected with pops of brighter colors, and everything was rendered in a loose silhouette (a proverbial breath of fresh air in the sweltering raw show space). The cropped orange duffel coat with the rope ties was quite smart, but my favorite was the brown-and-beige striped sweater tucked into lavender drawstring trousers. — MM

Ambush
Yoon Ambush has taken up surfing. This was abundantly evident in her latest Ambush collection, shown at the start of Paris Fashion Week in the Centre Pompidou. The feel was fun and summery, with standout pieces like scuba suits, a bright striped Baja pullover, tie-dye shirts, voluminous trousers, and an incredible yellow puffer vest which she said was like when you take a sleeping bag to the beach. When I complimented the functionality of the clothing she laughed and said, “Well yeah, it’s not art; you’re supposed to wear it.” And wear it we will. — MM
