Polish men live seven years less than Swedes on average, experts have warned at a conference on obesity.

Poles start unhealthy eating habits in childhood and do not exercise enough, experts said at the conference earlier this week.

One in three Polish eight-year-olds are overweight or obese, while half of 35- to 39-year-olds are carrying too much weight, the PAP news agency reported.

According to the World Health Organisation, there are about 80 diet-related diseases, including obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis and cancer.

Experts warned last month that Polish children were growing fatter faster than anywhere else in Europe because of a combination of a lack of physical activity and bad eating habits.
