“LeBron to San Antonio” has become a full-blown social media movement complete with memes, debates, Photoshop jobs of the current Cleveland Cavalier in a Spurs jersey and input from league experts and players.

Rumors were further fanned on Friday when the New York Times published an article on James’ fate after being swept in the NBA Finals by the Golden State Warriors. The Marc Stein report included a small mention of the “ever-persuasive” Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich, who is “bound to try to force his way” into speaking with him and selling him on San Antonio.


LeBron to Houston: LeBron James eyes a future that could include Rockets

The single sentence in the New York Times piece was enough to give more fuel to the buzz around the possibility San Antonio will welcome the beleaguered basketball star. It made for numerous headlines and excited social media conversations among Spurs fans.
