Lewis Hamilton says sport and society as a whole are living in the “stone age” around the issue of women’s rights.
After Forbes announced their annual list of the 100 highest-paid athletes in the world without including a single sportswoman, Hamilton said:
“Women rule the world. I don’t understand. It just shows you we are still in the stone age. That needs to change.”
Fernando Alonso has once again swerved the question of whether he will be in F1 next year as the Spaniard celebrates his 300th race in F1 this weekend at the Canadian GP.
Pressed to confirm he will be in F1 next year, Alonso said: “I don’t know. We will see.”

Meanwhile, the two-time world champion is braced for a difficult weekend in Montreal – but remains optimistic McLaren can compete.
“I expect a tough weekend in performance,” said Alonso. “We have a new spec engine so hopefully it will give us extra performance and there are aerodynamic upgrades on the car. On paper, this is a tricky circuit for us so we need to find something extra to be competitive.”

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is likely to avoid any sanction for this “I’ll headbutt someone” remark in Thursday’s press conference for the Canadian GP.
“I get really tired of all the questions. If I get any more, I might headbutt someone,” said Verstappen.
Sebastian Vettel has warned Red Bull’s Monaco superiority may not necessarily be a one-off and the former world champions could prosper again this weekend in Canada.
“They had a better tyre wear than other people in Monaco and obviously that could help them here,” said Vettel.
“This track is different again and a different layout but I don’t know what they are having or not – and what they have brought for updates and so on. I think we need to wait and see, but I expect it to be close just like the other races and hopefully Ferrari in front.”
But Montreal isn’t a happy hunting ground for the Scuderia: Ferrari haven’t won in Canada for over a decade.
McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne has defended his 2018 form and insisted the results pages don’t tell the true story of his season so far.
The Belgian currently trails team-mate Fernando Alonso 6-0 in qualifying and by 8 points to 32, but said:
“I don’t think it [the head-to-head numbers] tells the whole story. Obviously the statistics maybe tell that but in reality, we are very, very closely matched.
“In terms of where I was last year, I feel in a much better position this year. Things have not always gone my way – we lacked a bit of luck in some of the occasions. In some occasions, Fernando was just the quicker one – which is normal.”
