CLEVELAND, Ohio – Pete Rose, Lance Bass and several Real Housewives want you to remember dad this Sunday.
Or any day, for that matter.
Forget the special large-format beer or the tie or the hour of quiet time for dad on Father’s Day. Thanks to a Chicago-based service called Cameo, you can order a personalized video message for dad.
If he’s a sports guy, skip taking him to a game. Instead, have Rose – the all-time Major League hits leader – give the dad in your life a personized video shout-out. Or how ’bout former boy-band crooner Bass saying hi? What about a Real Housewife wishing your pop a really good day?
Cameo bills itself as reinventing celebrity autographs for the digital age, offering a stable of 1,900 talent choices. Chief Executive Officer is Steven Galanis, a former options trader and LinkedIn account executive. Cameo says the service provides a direct avenue for folks to connect with sports stars, entertainers and social-media influencers, while affording increased visibility to those celebrities not in the “superstar stratosphere” (read: B-listers).
From dancers to drag queens, ballplayers to bloggers, you have your choice of personalized shout-outs. You can use the service for birthday greetings, prom invitations, marriage proposals (really?), baby-gender reveals, coming-out-of-the-closet announcements (really??) job offers and pep talks.
The messages can be personalized with names and references, like this one with Rose.
The company says the average cost is $35, but with each celeb setting his or her price, it varies quite a bit. Cameo receives 25 percent, a rep says.
Prices seem to top out at $1,000, required by the likes of Dennis Rodman, Jordan Belfort (“The Wolf of Wall Street”) and Kam Chancellor (Seattle Seahawks safety).
Terrell Owens’ video sig costs $500 while former quarterback-turned-analyst Ron Jaworski runs $200 and NBA TV reporter Kristen Ledlow is $25.
Cleveland has its share of athletes on Cameo’s roster. Former Cavalier Channing Frye runs $40. Indians pitcher Dan Otero is $5 while Browns running back Joshua Rounds is $10. Former Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins costs $25.
Father’s Day is Sunday, June 17.
