Reader question: Something going on with Shade Today? Some of us have orders to pick up and the gates are locked.
Answer: Shade Today Nursery & Landscaping, 1401 W. Evergreen Drive in Appleton, has gone into receivership, according to court records.
Receivership is an alternative to bankruptcy in which the business’ assets are sold to pay creditors.
A third party, an appointed receiver, is put in charge of the company’s assets. The receiver is attorney Rebecca DeMarb out of Madison.
According to her office, assets will be auctioned June 7 at the nursery, which is a large facility visible from Interstate 41.
A sign posted on Shade Today’s front gate Tuesday reads, “Business is closed. No trespassing. Call 920-246-2724 for more information.”
That phone number goes to Mike Fabich, a De Pere consultant who works for the receiver.
If you wish to make a claim, or have a question about a deposit, Fabich said, “We would take their names and contact information so we can get them the appropriate forms.”
He might also recommend you call the receiver directly.
If you have a small unfilled order with the nursery, another option for getting your money back is to check with your credit card company. Ask if you can dispute the charge.
