Gossip: Liverpool's fear over striker; Utd cool on City target

UNITED COOL INTEREST IN CITY TARGET
The Manchester clubs could have saved a lot of time and money simply by combining scouting departments in recent years. City and United continue to battle for many of the same names, but the champions’ pursuit of Jorginho appears to have received a boost by the Red Devils’ decision to cool their interest in the Napoli midfielder.

That’s the claim of the Manchester Evening News, which reports that United are prioritising other midfield targets. United and City are both in the market for central players, with Jose Mourinho apparently not having ruled out signing a couple of new stars for his engine room.

United have been linked with Jorginho, Fred, Jean-Michael Seri, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Marco Verratti in recent months, with City also monitoring the first three of those names as Pep Guardiola looks for a long-term replacement for Fernandinho.

The prospect of a bidding war appears to have subsided but Napoli are still licking their lips at the thought of raking in £60million for the Brazilian-born Italy international.

LIVERPOOL MAY LOSE TOP TALENT TO GERMANY
English talent appears to be flavour of the month in Germany and Liverpool are said to be fearful of losing one of their top prospects to the Bundesliga.

Rhian Brewster is yet to commit to a professional contract at Anfield and numerous reports suggest a number of German clubs are keen to tempt the striker to the continent.

Borussia Monchengladbach are said to be at the front of the queue but Red Bull Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are also credited with an interest in the England Under-17 World Cup winner.

Brewster’s decision will reportedly depend on his prospects of first-team football and though Jurgen Klopp will bring him into his senior squad from the start of next season, the teenager’s progress may be blocked by Liverpool’s attacking riches.

The Reds continue to work on Brewster and his representatives but should he opt to move to Germany, Brewster would be treading the path taken by Jadon Sancho, Reece Oxford and Ademola Lookman, who have all taken the opportunity to sample life in the Bundesliga when their Premier League opportunities appeared restricted.
