Meghan Markle is preparing for her royal wedding to Prince Harry, but one thing she’s always been working on is a fit and healthy lifestyle.
The 36-year-old former Suits actress has been in the spotlight since she made her debut on the legal drama in 2011. However, she’s always been open about eating clean, working out and even indulging in cheat days.
“I definitely try to eat as clean as possible,” the soon-to-be-royal told Shape magazine in 2013. “Just fish and veggies, but I am also a foodie so on the weekend all bets are off.”
“I think trying to go for coffee or things like that only end up hurting you in the end, so [I like] to get a really good natural source of energy like a great green juice,” she added. “Something that just gets right into your system and is a nice pick-me-up.”
While eating clean is something she says comes from her being a California girl and “has been in my DNA probably since the womb,” she also loves to get her heart rate going.
“I love running but I think you have to find a workout routine that really speaks to you beyond trying to get goals for your body,” she told Shape. “For me running, I need it as much for my head, to clear my head, as I do for keeping in shape,” adding that she also loves hot yoga and Pilates. ET previously tried one of Meghan’s favorite Pilates classes, check out the workout in our article (HERE).
Royal expert Katie Nicholl told ET in March that “Meghan is a complete fitness fanatic” and continues her workouts now that she lives in England.
“There’s a park outside Kensington Palace and Meghan has been seen running a circuit there. She’s often in and out of the gym,” Nicholl explained. “Meghan is a complete fitness fanatic. She loves to run laps around Kensington gardens, which is just outside Kensington Palace. I’m told that she’s a fan of a private members club that does intensive fitness training classes, it’s called the Skinny B***h Collective. She was introduced to it by her friend, Millie Makintosh. She loves her yoga, In fact, she starts most mornings with a yoga ritual and that’s rubbed off on Prince Harry.”
One thing Meghan definitely tries to give herself is time to relax.
“I give myself the luxury of downtime,” she previously said in a conversation with Women’s Health UK. “We are all so incredibly busy and juggling so many things, but I always take an hour to just decompress, watch mindless TV, snuggle with my dogs…That’s all part of the investment. It’s a balance.”
The Hollywood actress also enjoys a good glass of wine to unwind from a hectic day. “Of course, I’m going to have that glass of wine — it’s delicious and I enjoy it,” she dished to Best Health in 2016. “Do the things you enjoy within reason. Know your body and what works for you and you’ll be fine.”
Meanwhile, as she’s getting older, Meghan understands the importance of taking care of your skin and maintaining your healthy lifestyle.
“As I’m getting older, my approach to aging is quite different,” she explained to Best Health. “I make sure that I take care of my skin and body, especially with the work hours I have. And I don’t just take care of myself for aesthetic reasons but because how I feel is dictated by what I’m eating, how much rest I’m getting and how much water I’m drinking. If I don’t have time for a long workout, I’ll grab my dog and go for a quick run. Being active is my own moving meditation.”
