Reader question: Has Marshall’s narrowed down the date of its grand opening in Appleton?

Answer: Yes. The off-price clothing store holds its grand opening starting at 8 a.m. May 17. Find it at 3825 E. Calumet St., in a portion of the former Gordmans on Appleton’s east side. It’s a combo store, with a HomeGoods store sharing the large space.

Reader question: What will be going in the former bank at the corner of Mall Drive and College Avenue? I know it’s been dug out and vacant for over a year now.

Answer: The site in question is the former Anchor Bank branch location behind the Fox River Mall’s south entrance sign. It’s one of the most visible corners in Grand Chute, and plenty of readers have been curious about it since the bank was torn down in December 2016.

“I wish I had news,” said site owner/developer Bob Gregorski. “We don’t have any firm commitments. We won’t begin to build until there are commitments in place.”

The original plan was to put several multitenant buildings on the site, but if one large tenant wants the entire site, he said they would accommodate that. They’ll file for permits when they know the building configuration.

“The right user will come,” he said.

Reader question: Regarding the current Holiday Inn on Nicolet: what is that becoming?

Answer: The existing Holiday Inn at 150 S. Nicolet Road in Grand Chute, near Interstate 41, will become a DoubleTree by Hilton late this year when remodeling is complete. It’s currently open, and remodeling is being done floor by floor.

Meanwhile, a brand new Holiday Inn has been proposed in Grand Chute, near the intersection of Casaloma and Greenville drives. It is slated to open in spring 2019. A Holiday Inn Express will begin construction next to it in 2020.
