A buoy, as boaters know, is something that floats.
The new Buoy business coming to downtown Neenah in May has isolation/sensory deprivation tanks that let people disconnect from the world and float like buoys.
The tanks have no light or sound, and let users relax, reduce stress and feel weightless as they float in body temperature salt water.
Buoy’s operating partner, Chris Sanders, also owns Fabric, a three-year-old hair salon in The Reserve (former ERA building) at 116 S. Commercial St.
Buoy will be on the basement level of the same building. It has two pods, an open float pool, steam shower and spa treatment room.
“The idea came to me about two years ago in a conversation with a professor from Korea,” Sanders said. “It piqued my fascination. I went to Milwaukee and experienced it.”
But what about claustrophobics?

“You’d be fine in one of the pods, but the open float pool is a great way to start,” he said.
He suggests first timers see “how to float and FAQs” at float-buoy.com.
Buoy and Fabric will have a joint open house with tours from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Buoy opens May 21.
Buoy will be the second floatation business in the Fox Cities. The first, Float Light, opened in Appleton late last year.
