CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A four-mile stretch of roads in Charlotte will close for four hours Sunday as the city promotes and encourages a healthy and active lifestyle.

The annual Open Streets 704 closes 4 miles of streets to traffic in several neighborhoods, including NoDa, Belmont, Villa Heights, Optimist Park, Commonwealth and Plaza Midwood.

The streets will be closed from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

The free event aims to build a better a healthier and more connected community by encouraging people to experience Charlotte without a car.

Participants are encouraged to walk, bike, roller skate, dance and play games in the streets through the Charlotte neighborhoods.

For the past two years, more than 60,000 people have participated.

Participants also can take the LYNX Blue Line Extension to one of the stops near the route.
