Is Tinsley Mortimer a “Kept Woman”? The New York 'Wife Reacts to Sonja Morgan's Gossip

Sonja Morgan has made it no secret of how she thinks Tinsley Mortimer is taking care of herself these days. She’s expressed her opinion that Tinsley’s ex, Scott Kluth, has been helping her out financially this season on The Real Housewives of New York City. And so Tinsley hit her breaking point with her former roomie when the group sat down for dinner in the Hamptons — and Tinsley called Sonja out about the chatter (clip above). And then she went and wrote her a check to prove just where her money is coming from.

“OK, I love Sonja. I was so grateful to live with her. I had heard that she had said a lot of things about me from Dorinda [Medley] and, maybe Dorinda was trying to stir the pot a little bit. But I don’t care because she should have because I don’t like someone to lie about me. I don’t want someone to talk negatively about me and say things that aren’t true,” Tinsley told The Daily Dish this week. “What happened was I felt that this became about money and I thought that if money is really going to be our obstacle right now in our friendship then I’m going to pay you for my time that I spent in your townhouse.”

Is Scott Footing Tinsley’s Bill?

Sonja Morgan has a lot of thoughts about Tinsley Mortimer and her relationship.

Tinsley said that when they were living together last season, Sonja insisted she not pay her anything and Tinsley felt it would be “rude” to offer her any money, but added that as of late, “I felt that it became about money and money should never be a situation between friends.” And that’s why Tinsley decided to write her the check for an amount that she felt fit her time spent in the Morgan townhouse. “I really wanted her to take the money,” the socialite added. That being said, once the ink was dry on the check, “she said she didn’t want it. Then it got burned at the end of the dinner, so no one took it. It’s gone. It just evaporated into the air. And then also it went onto a charger of Ramona [Singer]’s and she freaked out thinking that it was going to ruin the plate.”

That being said, Tinsley wants to make one thing clear: She has a great work ethic and has always worked hard for the things she has. It’s a lesson she learned from her family.

“I really honestly do not understand where this is coming from from Sonja. It’s really no one’s business however I provide for myself, but to imply that I’m almost a kept woman is insulting and it’s not what a friend should say. And it’s not true,” she said. “And I’m very lucky that I was brought up in a good family that had a lot of money. And luckily they do provide for me in a lot of ways. But I also have worked hard my whole life too. I wasn’t brought up that way. I was brought up to work, whether it was my national tennis playing, going to Lawrenceville, going to Columbia University, and afterwards working at Vogue and working in PR. [Then] having my own handbag and clothing line in Japan for 10 years, writing a book, Southern Charm. It is insulting to me that a friend would imply that in need to be taken care of in some way — whether it’s my family or some man. That’s not who I am and I don’t know what her motives are.”
