Khloe Kardashian joined with Tristan Thompson in announcing a name for their new baby girl. In a joint Instagram statement, they said they’re calling her True Thompson — a name that intentionally or not is weighted with all sorts of significance at this point in time.
After all, in the days before Khloe gave birth, she and her Cleveland Cavaliers boyfriend were hit with allegations that he hasn’t been all that true to his baby mama. The 27-year-old Thompson was alleged to be a “serial cheater” in various reports and photographed looking affectionate and entering a New York City hotel with a curvy Instagram model as recently as 10 days ago.
The day after the cheating scandal exploded, Khloe went into labor, and she gave birth April 12 at a hospital outside in Cleveland, Thompson’s hometown, where she had relocated in the final months of her pregnancy.
With Thompson, the “Keeping With the Kardashians” star made her baby name announcement via Instagram, posting a photo of a room filled with pink balloons. Their photo came with the caption: “Our little girl, True Thompson, has completely stolen our hearts and we are overwhelmed with LOVE. Such a blessing to welcome this angel into the family! Mommy and Daddy loooooove you True!”
Rumors have swirled about Khloe Kardashian’s roller coaster of emotions since news came that Thompson had cheated on her with as many as five different women. Before True arrived, 33-year-old Khloe was said to be devastated, brokenhearted or “ballistic” — and getting her assistant to pack up her bags to leave Cleveland for Los Angeles.
But after the baby came at around 4 a.m. April 12, Khloe may have had a change of heart, even though another report came from the Daily Mail, alleging that Thompson was linked to a fifth woman, with whom he may have been having an affair for months while Khloe was pregnant.
But Khloe was said to be filled with new-mom joy, floating in such “a bubble of peace and happiness” that she had either “basically already forgiven” Thompson or decided that he didn’t do anything more wrong than exchanging a few drunken kisses with women who were groupies “tying to trap him.”
Of course, fans aren’t going to know if Khloe and Tristan had settled on their daughter’s name before his cheating scandal exploded. They should also be accustomed to non-traditional names coming from a family that has also named its offspring North, Saint, Chicago and Dream.
Khloe’s mother and manager, Kris Jenner, took to Twitter Monday afternoon to explain that True is a family name and therefore had been contemplated for some time.
Jenner said her paternal grandfather’s name was True Otis Houghton, and her father’s name is Robert True Houghton. She said, “So i am so excited Khloe named her daughter True!!!”

Family tradition or not, Khloe and Tristan’s decision to go forward with the name True at this point in time can’t help but also come across as some kind of statement about where they think they are with their relationship.
Choosing the name True almost sounds like they believe they share share a “true” love, or that, going forward, they will vow to be honest and “true” to each other and to their new daughter. Of course, by sticking with the name True, Khloe could be shading her boyfriend or setting expectations for his future behavior.
For the little girl, having that name also might raise expectations for her about how she’ll conduct her life. Will True come to embrace the name or resent it?
Meanwhile, True also is getting her father’s last name, although that’s not that unusual, even in couples who split up or were never together for long.
Whatever Khloe and Tristan were telegraphing with the name True, they definitely signaled some other level of togetherness by signing their caption “Mommy and Daddy.”
Khloe Kardashian fans will recognize “Mom and Dad,” or “Mommy and Daddy” as the pet names they’ve had for each other since they began dating in 2016.
