The Buzz: Reader questions, and a few updates

Reader question: Construction is going on at the Banta Bowl. Have you seen that the press box is gone and it looks like they are starting the final phase of the renovation?

Answer: Post-Crescent photographer Dan Powers took a photo of the demolition last week. According to information from Joe Vanden Acker, director of athletic media relations for Lawrence University, a new expanded press box will be constructed this summer and will be ready by the end of July. It will have booths for the football coaching staff, a large space for game control and areas for media and team meetings.

Reader question: Have you folks heard anything on the Qdoba in Grand Chute? Their signs are down and the parking lot is filled with PODS and such. Fingers crossed they aren’t closing.

Answer: Qdoba at 4343 W. Wisconsin Ave., on the northern edge of the Fox River Mall, did a quick remodel and has reopened.

Reader question: Do you know when the old bowling alley in Freedom is going to re-open and what kind of restaurant it’s going to be? They’ve been working on it for quite a while and I heard they removed the lanes and did extensive renovations. A sign went up with the new name, Buzz’n Pub, or something close to that, but I’ve seen no website or Facebook page for it.

Answer: The new business is called Buzz’n Pub & Grill. It’s a sports bar that opened in March at W2116 County S in Freedom. The Facebook page is www.facebook.com/BuzznPubandGrill.

Taperz

Renovation will start shortly on a new barber shop called Taperz at 203 N. Richmond St. in Appleton. It’s in the middle of the strip mall that also includes Emmett’s Bar & Grill. “We’re aiming to open in May,” said barber and co-owner Cainan Davenport. He’s known as “K The Barber” from his work at King’s, and his partner in the business is Michael Linwood, also known as “Wood the Barber.” Their new shop will offer haircuts primarily for men and boys of all ethnic groups. The shop’s website, Facebook page and Instagram page are in the works.

Lumber Liquidators

Lumber Liquidators opened its sixth Wisconsin store at 1800 N. Casaloma Drive in Grand Chute, next to Monkey Joe’s indoor children’s playground. The budget retailer has nearly 400 locations and brands itself as “the largest specialty retailer of hardwood flooring in North America.” The store sells to both homeowners and professionals. It stocks solid and engineered hardwood, bamboo, cork, vinyl wood plank and laminate.
