Asked by TMZ on Thursday about the requirements for a potential Speaker, Rubio pointed out, “You don’t have to be a member of the House to be the Speaker.”
Any U.S. citizen can be elected Speaker, a position second in line in the presidential succession.
Asked if electing a celebrity, such as Kanye West or Oprah Winfrey, would “help unify the party,” Rubio replied with a grin, “That’s like, you don’t have to be a cardinal to be the Pope — but they always elect a cardinal.”
