Trumbull & Porter hotel in Corktown is rolling out a new cult classic movie promotion to drum up business at the hotel restaurant, Red Dunn Kitchen.
Beginning April 20, the Detroit hotel plans to show cult classic movies at 8 p.m. every Friday in its outdoor courtyard, with popcorn and themed cocktails available. Parking and admission to the movies is free.
The movies are scheduled to end Oct. 26 with a showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Guests are encouraged to stop by the hotel restaurant for dinner or happy hour prior to the show.
Red Dunn Kitchen is an upscale restaurant attached to the hotel at 1331 Trumbull Ave. It opened last spring after a $1.3 million build-out that was part of a larger renovation of the hotel.
Free movies have long been offered by Detroit businesses and parks as a way to draw the community together and increase exposure. In its first year, Beacon Park hosted free movie showings in a heated tent during the winter. New Center, too, has hosted a similar series with Wednesday night movies.
