Most Touchable Curls: Darren Criss
Darren Criss had ultra-groomed, overly styled hair on Glee but, these days, in his real life, he’s all about letting his natural texture do its thing. Which is awesome, because he has no shortage of it. His beard is full, his eyebrows are bushy, and his hair is wavy: dude never needed all that high-shine pomade to begin with.
Best Color Update: Zayn Malik
We weren’t feeling Zayn Malik’s bleached blonde beard but his latest hairstyle—which took all of a week for him to transition to, as he is a one-man celebrity haircut machine—is much more balanced. Malik turned up the volume on his color with a green rinse, then grew out and shaved down his sides and scruff so that they’re back to black. We dig.
Most Impressive Height: John Cho
Fade haircuts might not be quite so omnipresent these days, but John Cho is a reminder that there will always be men who were born to rock the look. His is a work of art. Those waves! That height! Those sides! If you’ve got this kind of volume, stick with the cut for the rest of your life.
Best Camouflage: Jaden Smith
One fun bonus of what we’ve dubbed the technicolor crop—a.k.a. a buzz-cut that’s been dyed an unnatural, saturated color—is when it accidentally matches your colorful surroundings. Earlier this month we shouted out Pharrell for matching his baseball cap to his hair. Jaden Smith, Pharrell’s newest collaborator, took the move one step further by coordinating with an architectural beam. Your move, Zayn?
Best Beard-to-Hair Ratio: Big Sean
Big Sean turned 30 years old this weekend and celebrated in true front-man fashion, with multiple star-studded parties, extra swaggy outfits, and a few private plane photo ops. While his hair was not exactly the star of the show, it’s worth pointing out that it looked damn good through the festivities.
“You Do You” of the Week: Henry Cavill
Shaving off a beard or mustache you’ve been rocking for a long time naturally feels like a big, milestone moment. The ritual demands documentation and, in 2018, some social media airtime. This week Henry Cavill joined the likes of Chris Hemsworth and Gerard Butler by posting a sentimental ode to his facial hair. If you ask us it’s a little…dumb but who are we to get between a guy and his facial hair rituals.
