Samira’s Mediterranean Cuisine
Samira’s Mediterranean Cuisine opened Wednesday in the former location of Superior Shawarma, 3402 N. Richmond St. in Appleton.
The new casual cafe is in its “soft opening” phase said Tyrone Caldwell, co-owner with wife Samira Abu-Baker.
Its limited start-up menu includes a mix of Arab, Greek and Mediterranean foods like chicken shawarma sandwiches, gyros, kebabs, falafel and tabouli. He describes the “veggie samboos” as a Somalian/Ethiopian “cousin to an eggroll.”
Caldwell was previously part-owner of a former business at the same site, Taste of the Windy City. He’s managing partner now, but said the venture is his wife’s. She is currently wrapping up her job in Minneapolis and splitting time in both cities.
“She wanted to have her own business. It’s all of her recipes,” he said. “She has entrepreneurial blood in her.”
