Reader question: I saw a status on Facebook about Popeyes coming to Grand Chute. Apparently job postings are floating around for a restaurant general manager. Do you happen to know anything about this project?

Answer: Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is advertising on a variety of job search sites for a manager and assistant manager for a “first restaurant to be built in the Grand Chute area.”

The company’s corporate and regional representatives did not respond to messages asking about the location and timing of the future restaurant.

“No plans have been submitted yet for a project, but we are aware they are exploring opportunities in this market,” said Bob Buckingham, Grand Chute’s community development director.

Popeyes is a fast food chicken restaurant with 2,600 locations that started in 1972 in New Orleans. It was named after Popeye Doyle of “The French Connection,” a movie that came out in 1971, according to popeyes.com.

Popeyes has 18 locations in the Milwaukee, Madison, Janesville and Racine/Kenosha areas, according to its website.

Reader question: Why are we seeing a TV commercial in the mornings for Chick-fil-A here in the Fox Cities? Are there plans somewhere to build one here in the Valley?

Answer: It might be a national ad that runs in all regions of the country, similar to Sonic ads that air here even though there are no Sonics in this part of the state.

Calls made to Chick-fil-A’s corporate office asking about Fox Valley plans were not returned.

Bob Buckingham, Grand Chute’s community development director, said he could repeat his answer given in the Popeyes question above.

“It’s very similar. We’ve seen nothing in the way of plans yet, but we’re aware they’re exploring their opportunities,” he said.

The Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A is a 50-year-old family owned company that has more than 2,200 restaurants in 47 states. It has eight locations in Wisconsin, in the Milwaukee, Madison and Racine areas.
