LIVERPOOL REALLY WANT WERNER
We’ve heard plenty about Jurgen Klopp’s intentions to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner this summer, but what we haven’t yet worked out is why Werner would be up for the move. Surely Klopp isn’t going to drop Roberto Firmino, his perfect disciple? Or does Firmino have a new role to come?
The latest report comes from Bild, who say that Klopp is so keen to sign Werner that he is prepared to pay £87m to get the deal done.
Well, here’s what Werner said recently: “I’ve got a contract here until 2022 and I’m very happy in Leipzig. I’m definitely still going to be playing here next year.”
Oh.
JUVENTUS VS MAN UNITED IN FOR RAMSEY
Hoo boy, Arsenal are going to have serious work on their hands to keep Aaron Ramsey beyond this summer. The Sun are reporting that Jose Mourinho has told Manchester United’s bosses that he rates Ramsey higher than Paul Pogba, which is a pretty ballsy claim.
We heard last week that Mourinho wanted to sign Ramsey this summer, and it looks like we will get a few timely leaks to ensure that the deal stays in the headlines. It’s pretty clear that Mourinho does hold an interest in the Arsenal midfielder. If you were him, why wouldn’t you push for a move?
The spanner in the works is that Juventus would also quite like to sign Ramsey this summer to pair him with Emre Can.
Ramsey’s contract at Arsenal finishes at the end of next season, and there have been no progressions as yet.
TIERNEY OVER ROSE AS UNITED’S NEW LEFT-BACK
The assumption is that Danny Rose will be Manchester United’s new left-back, replacing Luke Shaw this summer. Rose has fallen out of favour at Tottenham after his comments to The Sun before the start of the season, and a swap deal with Shaw would make everybody very happy indeed.
However, the Scottish Daily Record have thrown a curve ball by suggesting that Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney is Manchester United’s first-choice transfer target rather than Rose. This is straight from the mouth of Duncan Castles, so you have to suspect the information has come from Mourinho. If they’re talking again.
Celtic will want over £20m for Tierney, who could reasonably lay claim to be the best left-back in Britain right now.
AND THE REST
Antonio Conte will finish the Premier League season as Chelsea manager and then take over as Italy coach… Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho have been dropped from the England U19s team for disciplinary reasons… Swansea want to sign Andy King from Leicester on a permanent deal.
