There’s nothing quite like hanging out with your dog.
Wes Anderson’s new film Isle of Dogs hits theaters on Friday, which is the perfect excuse to curl up on the couch with your best friend and enjoy a great movie.
In honor of this furry and fun day, we rounded up five of our favorite dog films available to stream or rent. Because we only want to be happy on this dog-centric day, we’re specifically leaving out overtly tragic films such as Old Yeller and Marley & Me, though they would rank very high on a list of the best dog films of all time.
If you love Christopher Guest films: Best in Show

Perhaps one of the funniest dog movies around, Best in Show is a showcase for both adorable pups and for the cast that populates director Christopher Guest’s comedies, including Waiting for Guffman and A Mighty Wind. Parker Posey, Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy all are hilarious in this film about an eccentric group of dog owners butting heads at a dog show.

If you think the more dogs, the better: 101 Dalmatians (1961)
Yes to “101 Dalmatians.” But the original, please. (Photo: DISNEY)
The Disney classic has everything: A catchy soundtrack, a love-to-hate-her villain and dogs on dogs on dogs. No offense to Glenn Close and the live-action remake, but the original animated edition is one of the best dog stories ever told.
Buy it on Vudu.
If you love an adventure: Eight Below

Paul Walker stars in this incredible tale of survival about a group of scientists in Antarctica who are forced to leave their sled dogs behind after an accident. Although there is some dog-related sadness, the bigger message is one of hope.
Stream it on Cinemax.
If you can tolerate a cat: Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

The ’90s was a great decade for dog films (also see the original Air Bud, which almost made our list), but Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey is one of the most sentimental. The film is about two dogs and a cat who get separated from their family and do whatever it takes to get home. Your dog would, too.
Stream it on Netflix.
If you enjoy old monster movies: Frankenweenie
It’s alive! Sparky in Tim Burton’s “Frankenweenie.” (Photo: DISNEY)
Tim Burton’s black-and-white animated film is a tribute to the horror classics of old Hollywood. And it’s an incredibly sweet story of a boy and his dog, Sparky — brought back to life, Dr. Frankenstein-style, to unexpected consequences. But Sparky, like many other seemingly threatening dogs, is more misunderstood than monstrous.
Rent or buy it on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu or YouTube.
