Fewer parking spaces plus for Delaware Plaza
When the Bethlehem planning board heard of plans last week by Delaware Plaza in Delmar to update the strip mall’s facade, board members were pleased.
But they said the upgrade would be a waste if the shopping center did not also address the parking issues at the plaza, which includes a Hannaford supermarket.
One of the main issues is a cutout entrance to Bruegger’s Bagels on Delaware that is just west of the main entrance to the plaza. Many motorists use the Bruegger’s entrance, which can be dangerous because there are several parking spaces located near the cutout.
The planning board would like Delaware Plaza to eliminate some of the more problematic spaces, which is probably a good idea.
Software symbol looks like UFO in Lake George
The New York Post recently published a story about a YouTube video that purports to show a UFO hovering over Lake George.
“True believers are over the moon about a gray spherical orb spotted on a Google Earth image from upstate New York — proof positive, they claim, that aliens paid the bucolic region a visit,” the story states.
However, the “orb” looks like the “360 degree interactive view” symbol that Google uses on its maps pages.
Of course to downstate newspapers, everything upstate appears to be hokey, as if we are all spaceship-following, UFO crazies.
Program in the works for apprenticeships
The Center for Economic Growth has been working hard to provide more workforce development programs to the region. After all, if you can’t find suitable workers for all the new jobs you create, you create problems for the companies you attract or get to grow here.
One of the biggest issues for manufacturers has been apprenticeship programs, which are long and costly. CEG is creating a program that will address the concerns.
An informational meeting will take place 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center where Department of Labor officials will also be on site.
