Player 2 Arcade Bar, a new video game bar, will open in downtown Appleton around the end of March.
Owners Marissa Emerson and fiancé Michael Joyce leased the building at 215 E. College Ave., which was previously Ravens and Colt’s Timeless Tavern. It’s next to Wooden Nickel.
“It will be a retro-theme arcade bar. Most of our machines are at least 25 years old,” said Emerson. “My fiancé and I are both passionate about games. We like things that are retro and old school.”
The couple has collected about 40 machines. Their website player2bar.com lists the names in their collection, including Rampage World Tour, Terminator 2, Arkanoid, Ms. Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat 3.
They moved to Appleton from Minneapolis a week ago specifically to open this business.
Joyce went to school in Superior and previously worked in Wisconsin, which he liked.
They came to Appleton to see if this building could work.
“Once we toured it, we said yes,” Emerson said. “The demographics were perfect for what we were looking for. We liked this bar. We loved everyone we met. Check, check, check.”
Player 2 is for ages 21 and older, but aims to make customers feel like kids again. Games use tokens and TVs will play retro movies.
