Arie, you messed up, kid. On Monday night, The Bachelor aired the three-hour first half of its two-part Season 22 finale—a particularly emotional affair in which bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. chose Becca K. to be his life partner, then reneged, breaking off his engagement to “give it a shot” with Lauren B. The breakup was a particularly exploitative affair; it was difficult to watch as Arie followed Becca around, trying to talk at her as she repeatedly asked him to leave. Now, several of the season’s contestants are partaking in a fun little game: roasting Arie on social media. Two of his Bachelor exes went as far as to say they’d “dodged a bullet.”
Becca K. made a little joke on Twitter Tuesday morning, posting an early cast photo in which she could be seen making an enigmatic face. Her caption? “Deep down, I knew.”
Lauren B., meanwhile, simply posted a photo of herself, writing, “Thinking about tonight…More wine please.?”
Truthfully, watching all of these women ganging up on Arie is almost more entertaining than anything that happened on The Bachelor itself this season. Over the past few years especially, social media has become an increasingly fascinating supplement to Bachelor broadcasts, as contestants live-tweet and comment on behind-the-scenes realities that didn’t make it to screen. Contestants are likely encouraged to stay engaged on social media, and even fan the flames a bit when it comes to relationship drama—but some of these Arie posts push even that envelope, in an exceedingly amusing way.
The ringleader of this John Tucker Must Die sequel? Bekah Martinez, who posted prolifically about the incident on Monday night. First, she posted a photo of herself looking uncomfortable with Arie, captioned, “that moment when you realize you dodged a bullet.” Then came another—screenshots of a Twitter DM from Arie to her, sent last month, captioned, “dm’ing your ex on twitter is a great look too, no? ?☕️ #teampetty #teambecca.” Apparently Lauren B. wasn’t the only ex Arie decided to keep in touch with . . .
Bekah also live-tweeted the episode, writing, “yo dude when you break off an engagement for your other ex gf the least you can do is LEAVE when she tells you to fucking GET OUT” and “hahahahahaha @ariejr is the biggest fucking tool i’ve ever seen. becca is a queen. a goddess. thank the LORD he’s out of her life.” And for those who thought she was making too much of Arie’s DM to her? “yeah arie was probably being friendly but guess what I DONT CARE HAHAHA, BOY BYEEEEE.”
Bekah might be the most vocal contestant, but plenty of others joined her in blowing up Arie’s spot on social media. Bibiana Julian re-tweeted Becca K.’s joke, while Jenna Cooper echoed Bekah’s thoughts, posting a photo of herself eating on Twitter and writing, “I’m just having a dish of ‘Dodged a Bullet’ tonight.” Lauren Schleyer also tweeted a quick Arie scold during Monday’s broadcast: “Arie… LEAVE. Stop thinking about you.” Kendall Long kept things a little more diplomatic, writing, “You’re heart can’t control how it feels or when it feels but your mind can control what you do with how you feel and how you make others feel…ya feel?”
And what does Arie have to say for himself? Well . . . not a whole lot.
