The Best Street Style From Paris Fashion Week, Day 1

Finally, we’ve arrived at Paris Fashion Week, the big finale of fashion month. We’ve lived through New York’s sleek athleisure, London’s eccentric pattern-play, and Milan’s vibrant eclecticism — and now we’re ready to see how the perennially chic Parisians bear the freezing temps through Paris Fashion Week.

We’re loving the brave soul who took cliché staples of French fashion (berets, knee-high socks, dainty fit-and-flare dresses) and made it goth with a spider-embroidered bib and mini face-framing braids. That is how Wednesday Addams would show up in the front row. Berets naturally made quite a few appearances, mostly accompanied by Dior accents. Marine Serre, current fashion darling, infiltrated the street-style uniform with her crescent moon prints. It’s especially effective when just peeking out of a black wool coat and paired with a clear plastic bag.

Lest you think street style has gotten boring, just look at the master accessorizer we found on Day One. He paired his tiger-print jacket (truly an estranged stepsister in the canon of animal prints) with a gold paper clip on the lapel, a gold safety pin hanging from his hat, and a special pocket on the top of his hat for holding a cigarette (or, if you don’t smoke, maybe a pen).
